Ward competes in trio of Tri-State Late Model features at Brown County
Over Labor Day weekend, Morgan Ward made a trip to Aberdeen, South Dakota, to compete in three impressive Tri-State Late Model Series fields at Brown County Speedway.
On Friday, Ward took part in a pair of Tri-State programs at the 1/3-mile clay oval. The first was the washed-out 35-lap main event from June 7. Ward started 13th on the grid in the $3,000-to-win race and finished 14th.
In the night’s second Tri-State Late Model event, 36 competitors sought a $1,000 first-place prize. After missing out on a transfer spot in her heat, Ward grabbed the checkered flag in her B-Main to start 17h in the feature. She picked up three spots in the 25-lapper and came home 14th again.
The Tri-State Late Model Series wrapped up its Brown County slate on Saturday with the Big Buck Nationals. A $3,000 winner’s share was on the line for the victor of the 33-car show. Ward was third quickest in her group qualifying session and went on to win her heat race. She started sixth in the 35-lap A-Main but was forced to retire early and recorded a 20th-place finish.
